Sometimes breastfeeding comes naturally…and sometimes it doesn’t.
Confused by all the advice out there, and want to develop a plan that suits you, your baby and your family?
We know the pressures surrounding breastfeeding are real…we have been there. We offer a place of no judgement, support and realistic evidence-based advice.
What is unique about The Parenting Place is that not only are we International Board Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLC) we have a vast array of education and knowledge in child health, development, sleep & settling and paediatric nursing. What this means for you is that not only are we qualified lactation consultants we can also identify if there are perhaps sleep or medical issues impacting on your breastfeeding journey.
Support For The Family
We offer a holistic approach that encompasses the whole family unit as we know breastfeeding is not always about the infant but is a powerful and emotional journey for particularly mums but also dads. We encourage dads or support people to attend appointments if possible to soak up as much knowledge as they can so they also feel empowered and absorb some of the information their partners may miss.
Lactation Support Services
One-on-one support for you and your baby. We won’t tell you what to do… we will help you with strategies and impart knowledge to ensure you walk out the door with a plan, feeling empowered by the choices you have made. All appointments are held in our relaxing studio in the Samford Valley, North Brisbane. A comfortable chair, tissues, a hot or cold towel, a warm cup of tea and a cuddle are all part of our service. We are eligible for some private health funds.
Your initial consultation will run for approximately 1 ½ hours and involves a full history assessment of your breastfeeding journey so far. We’ll ask questions and listen to your concerns. If required an easy-to-understand plan will be written for you as well. A follow-up phone call will be made 48 hours after consult and we encourage you to email us with any questions or concerns you have in the two weeks following this. The cost of this consultation is $150. Follow-up consultations are based on need and generally run for 45 minutes to 1 hour to reassess your plan and make any adjustments. The cost of this consultation is $90.
Breastfeeding Group Workshops
We also offer unique breastfeeding group sessions where perhaps you, your partner and a couple of friends want to come and receive breastfeeding education before your baby is born.
We cover what to expect with breastfeeding, maximising your supply, identifying how to tell if your baby is effectively feeding, and common issues that may present.
The cost of these sessions depends on the number of attendees but are a very cost-effective way to receive this vital information to get your breastfeeding journey off to the best start. Partners are welcome and encouraged to attend as well. These sessions run for approximately 2 hours.
